The following information represents the govermental travel regulations, procedures and restrictions for travel to Azerbaijan Republic as at the 1st of january 2006. Purpose for the publication is just to educate the travellers of common rules of the country related with their journey. Up-to-dated information on the subject may be obtained from such sources of information as official govermental bodies of Azerbaijan republic or/and TIM and TIMATIC. PASSPORT SECTION ******* Required, except for holders of: 1. Travel documents issued to stateless persons and refugees. 2. German identity document ("Kinderausweis") issued to minors up to/incl. 15 years of age (see note 11 below). Validity: Passport should be valid for the period of intended stay. Crew: Passport and a general declaration required (see terms & definitions). Crew members have to travel in uniform. Additional information: Stateless persons and refugees must contact embassy or consulate of Azerbaijan prior to Arrival. Notes 11: *"Kinderauswe" is accepted only if minor is accompanied by parent(s). VISA SECTION ******* Warning: Non-compliance with the entry regulations will result in deportation of the passenger and fines for the transporting airline. Visa: Required, except for: 1. Nationals of Azerbaijan. 2. Holders of normal passports issued to nationals of: Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova (Rep. of), Russian Fed., Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. 3. Nationals of Turkey holding diplomatic, service or official passports, travelling on official government business. If coming for touristic purposes visa exempt for a max. stay of 3 months. 4. For a max. stay of 3 months, nationals of China (People's Rep.) Holding diplomatic or service passports or passports endorsed for public affairs. (twov) - (transfer passengers without visa) 5. Those continuing their journey to a third country within 72 hours (see note 21 below) if: -holding confirmed onward tickets; and -not leaving the transit area. CREW: VISA NOT REQUIRED. Issue: 1. Prior to arrival: by representations of Azerbaijan established abroad in: Austria (Vienna), Belgium (Brussels), China (People's Rep.) (Beijing), Egypt (Cairo), France (Paris), Germany (Bonn), Iran (Tehran), Italy (Rome), Kazakhstan (Astana), Norway (Oslo), Russian Fed. (Moscow, St. Petersburg), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), Syria (Damascus),Turkey (Ankara, Istanbul), Turkmenistan (Ashgabat), Ukraine (Kiev), U.A.E. (Abu Dhabi), United Kingdom (London), U.S.A. (New York, Washington) and Uzbekistan (Tashkent). 2. On arrival: nationals of Turkey for a max. stay of one month. fee: usd 10.-. 3. On arrival (see note 22 below): visa for a max. stay of 30 days. An invitation is not necessary (see note 23 below) but it is recommended to hold a document that shows the purpose of the visit. Passengers should hold one passport photo. fee: usd 40.-. Additional information: 1. Passengers visiting relatives must register with local police and have registration entered in their visa. If staying in a hotel, this will be arranged by the hotel. 2. Visas are only valid for the cities listed in the visa. 3. Alien residents require visas, which have to be renewed each year. Notes: *21stateless persons and refugees are allowed transit for up to 24 hours. *22nationals of iran are highly recommended to hold a visa issued prior to arrival. *23not applicable to nationals of Afghanistan and Pakistan, who need to hold a letter of invitation issued by the ministry of external affairs of Azerbaijan to obtain a visa on arrival. HEALTH SECTION ******* No vaccinations required for entry Azerbaijan from any country. AIRPORT TAX SECTION ******* No airport tax is levied on passengers upon embarkation at the airport (see terms & definitions). CUSTOMS SECTION ******* Import: Free import by persons of 16 years and older: 1. 1000 cigarettes or 1000 grammes of tobacco products. 2. 1 1/2 litres of alcoholic beverages and 2 litres of wine. 3. A reasonable quantity of perfume for personal use. 4. Residents: goods up to an amount of USD 10,000.- for personal use only; non-residents: goods up to an amount of USD 10,000.-. Additional information: 1. No special permit is required for import of a video camera for personal use, provided declared on arrival. Re-exported. 2. The customs declaration, which will be filled out on entry of Azerbaijan (or any other c.i.s. country) must be kept carefully. When leaving Azerbaijan this declaration has to be handed over, even when travelling to other c.i.s. countries. Prohibited: Photographs and printed matter directed against Azerbaijan, live animals (subject to special permit), military arms and ammunition, narcotics (opium, hashish, etc.), fruit and vegetables. Crew: Same regulations as for passengers apply. Pets: Cats, dogs and birds (except pigeons) must be accompanied by a veterinarian health certificate bearing seal of local board of health and not be issued over ten days prior to arrival. Pigeons are prohibited entry. Pets may enter as passenger's checked baggage, in the cabin or as cargo. Generally pets are not permitted in hotels. Baggage clearance: Baggage is cleared at the first airport of entry in Azerbaijan. Exempt: Baggage of transit passengers with a destination outside the C.I.S. (see terms & definitions); See also 5. "customs" - additional information 2. Export: Prohibited: Arms, ammunition, precious metals (gold, silver, etc.) And articles (see note 51 below) made thereof (also if containing precious stones and/or real pearls), antiquities and art objects (subject to duty and special permit from the Ministry of culture), furs. Notes: *51except if such articles belong to the imported personal effects of the passenger (e.g. personal jewelry) and have been declared upon arrival. CURRENCY SECTION ******* Import: Allowed. Local currency (new azeri manat-AZN which will circulate concurrently with the old azeri manat-AZM, which will remain in circulation up to/incl. December 31, 2006): allowed for residents of Azerbaijan, provided the amount has been declared on the customs declaration when leaving the country. Foreign currencies: unlimited for residents and non-residents, provided declaration is made. Declaration must be stamped by customs at Baku. Export: Allowed. Local currency (new azeri manat-AZN/old azeri manat-AZM ): Allowed unlimited for residents of Azerbaijan, provided the amount is declared at departure. Foreign currencies: Residents: Max. USD 10,000.- (or equivalent). All amounts higher than Usd 1,000.- are subject to tax (1%). Amounts higher than USD 10,000.- have to be approved by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan. Non-residents: Up to the amount imported and declared (proof of import must be presented. If not holding proof of import a max. Of USD 1,000.- may be exported).
